Learning to Sew

Standard

Well, I finally started sewing lessons.  Last year I decided I need to expand my skills.  I tend to be one of those people who “know a little about a lot.”  However, when it comes to being really good at something…well, I usually give up…

So, in the spirit of this blog and changing things, I took my first sewing lesson last week.  It was fun!!!  A woman from my church is teaching me – she is an amazing seamstress.  Since we will be moving later this summer, I knew I wanted to take advantage of the opportunity to learn from her.

We started with a simple skirt for my daughter.  It has an elastic band and binding trim around the bottom.

The fabric is so fun!  I think picking out fabrics might prove to be one of my favorite parts of sewing.

The pattern I picked has a full skirt – so full in fact that I ran out of binding (which was 3yds long).  So the it isn’t quite finished yet. I need to get more binding and then my sewing instructor (SI) will show me how to attach it right at my next lesson.  There are so many little things to learn – I hadn’t realized how much!

We are going to meet every other week, so that should keep me at a good pace.

Up next???  Learning to sew a neckline.  I have this super cute pattern for a tank shirt for my daughter. Can’t wait!
